What surprised the foreign participants of the Folkloriada when they first came to Russia?
On July 3, the International Folklore Festival started, which is being held in Russia for the first time this year. Foreign teams began arriving in the capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan on July 1. During this short period of time, our guests managed to get acquainted with Russian culture and traditions. The volunteers-translators of the Folkloriada collected the impressions of foreigners about what seems unusual in our country and what surprised them most of all: "Russians add dill to almost all dishes! Whereas in Austria it is used only in certain dishes." "We were surprised that our curator added milk to the tea! We didn't even know that it was possible to mix these two ingredients. It was also a discovery for us that Kaliningrad is geographically in Europe, but it is still Russia, " comments the team from Panama. "I was struck by the fact that Russians mostly have their father's last name and have a patronymic, while we have two first names and two last names – one of the father, the other of the mother," the participants from Colombia shared. "We tried buckwheat for the first time. It seemed to us very strange to the taste, " commented the team from Spain.
