On this day in 1920 was the opening of the Bashkir Nesterov Art Museum. It was named after the name of famous russian painter, Ufa native Mikhail Nesterov in 1954. The beginning of the collection and the foundation of the museum started after he presented some art works in 1913. Those were the paintings by K. Korovin, N. Rerikh, I. Levitan, A. Benua and others.
He also gave some of his art works - about 30 of them. Those were the portaits, landscapes and so on. Now the collection includes about 130 pieces mostly made from 1878 to 1919.
Nowadays you can see the masterpieces of the russian futurism representative - David Burlyk. His collection includes about 37 pieces made from 1915 to 1918 - while the painter had been working in Bashkiria.
Full museum archive includes more than 12 000 pieces.
The museum is located in historical part of the capital, in the manor house of the local merchant mr. Laptev. New building was designed in 2014 near the manor.
A lot of exhibitions occur here nowadays. The museum also has his branches, such as Izhad art-gallery ot the memorial house of A. Tyulkin.
