The All-Russian scientific and practical conference "TERRA BASHKIRIA: New sources for the study of the Bashkirs" was held at the Bashkir State University, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Scientific Society for the Study of Bashkiria. At the plenary meeting, new data on the Scientific Society for the Study of Bashkiria were presented, which were identified in the course of research by scientists in the beginning of the 21st century In particular, in his speech “On the issue of creating a Society for the Study of Bashkiria”, Marat Zulkarnaev spoke about the history of the creation of the Society and presented its first documents, which are currently stored in the Department of Manuscripts and Rare Editions and in the Department of Bashkir Literature and Local Lore of the National Library. «The Society for the Study of Bashkiria was founded in 1922. But the very study of the Bashkir region begins much earlier. Research of the region began in the 18th century, when academic expeditions of famous scientists of that time were organized in Russia, the routes of which also passed through Bashkiria. In the 19th century, research continued: societies were created to study the history, geography, and economy of the region. In many ways, this was of an applied nature: similar traditions in the study of local history were started in the 18th-19th centuries».
