The Latvian national holiday "Ligo" was celebrated in Bashkortostan

On the eve of the Arkhangelsk region, the Republican Latvian national holiday "Ligo" was held, which is celebrated annually on the Day of the Summer Solstice. Otherwise, it's still customary to call it "Yanov's Day."

Organizers: Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Head of the House of Friendship of the Peoples of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Administration of the MR Arkhangelsk District, Latvian Historical and Cultural Center.

At the symbolic green gates guests of the holiday were greeted by representatives of Latvian, Bashkir and Russian nationalities. They greeted the guests in their native languages ​​and presented them with national dishes and drinks. Participants in the holiday in Latvian national costumes wore maple hats, wreaths of wildflowers and oak branches. The Latvian exemplary ensemble "Atbalts" met guests with folk songs.

The Latvian folklore ensemble has arranged for the audience a theatrical presentation of the Ligo festival, after which the participants went to find the main plant of the holiday - a blossoming fern, which according to the legend dissolves golden petals only on the eve of the summer solstice.

One of the main symbols of the holiday is a fire that drives away evil spirits. By tradition, you can not sleep in Yanov on night, since you can sleep through the whole summer. Therefore, round the campfire, dances begin to dance and dance to meet the dawn.
