Five singers, among whom were Russian who passed the competition, which involved more than 365 young artists from 61 countries. Auditions were held in August 2016, 67 best participants were selected based on the results. After three rounds of competition short list of 12 contenders was formed. The last stage, which was attended by 12 singers, was held on the main stage of Covent Garden, in the jury all the music directors of the theater.
