November 17 marks the 55th anniversary of the opening of the monument to Salavat Yulaev. Its authors are the sculptor Soslanbek Tavasiev and the architect Ismagil Gaynutdinov.

The first resolution of the Bashsovnarkom "On the project of a monument to Salavat Yulaev in Ufa" was adopted on August 18, 1943. Despite the difficult war years, it was supposed to immediately begin design work on the architectural part of the monument and finish them by the 25th anniversary of Soviet Bashkiria - by March 1944.

Having become interested in the person who became a symbol of patriotism and fearlessness, having studied historical, literary and other sources about Salavat, Soslanbek Tavasiev began creating the image of a hero.

Soslanbek Tavasiev spent about 20 years working on the monument. The monument of 4.5 natural size was cast in the early 60s at the Leningrad Plant of Monumental Sculpture from 4 elements (a multi-ton cargo was delivered to Ufa by water on a barge).

A meeting dedicated to the opening of the monument to Salavat Yulaev was held in Ufa on November 17, 1967.

The largest equestrian statue in Russia, cast from metal, the height is 9.8 m, the weight is 40 tons, the height of the pedestal is 10 m.The monument has become an integral part of the architectural, historical and cultural image of Ufa.

In 2022, it became known about the overhaul of the sculpture.
