November 18 Center for Contemporary Art "Clouds" invites you to a lecture on the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood is the seven young conspirators who planned to make a revolution in 19th-century English painting. This direction combines the incongruous: the conservative avant-garde, realistic symbolism, vicious chastity are all these, the Pre-Raphaelites, the first modernists and the last knights of the Victorian era.
The lectures will cover the main works of Dante Rossetti, William Hunt and John Millet, as well as:
• why the Pre-Raphaelites can be considered the first modernists;
• what relationship exists between English painting and literature;
• how the work of the Pre-Raphaelites influenced advertising and design;
Lecturer: Ekaterina Romanova, candidate of philosophical sciences, culturologist, theater journalist.
Time: Nov. 18, at 4:00 pm
Place: Center for Contemporary Art "Clouds" (Bakalinskaya St. 3), phone: 299-77-44.
