The International Mother Language Day is a worldwide annual observance held on 21 February to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism. It has been celebrated since 2000.
Languages are the most powerful tool for preserving and developing our material and spiritual heritage. All steps to promote the spread of mother tongues serve not only to promote linguistic diversity and multilingual education, to develop a fuller acquaintance with linguistic and cultural traditions around the world, but also strengthen solidarity based on mutual understanding, tolerance and dialogue.
Bashkortostan is a multinational republic with about 160 nationalities, each of them has its own language, culture and customs.
