On July 2, the VIII International Festival of Finno-Ugric cuisine "Byg-Byg" was held in the village of Starye Bygi, Sharkansky district of the Republic of Udmurtia. The folk group of the Udmurt historical and cultural center "Eshyaskon Tugoko" ("Wreath of Friendship") of the Tatyshlinsky district of the Republic of Bashkortostan took part in the competition of national creative groups "Byg-Byg" and was awarded the first- degree diploma.
The name of the festival has a special meaning: "Byg-Byg" is what the Udmurt hostess says when she makes especially delicious pastries. Visitors could taste perepech and varz, podkagoli and coman-melna, horse meat on coals and even halya evey from the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug at the festival of national cuisine. Delicious dishes according to Udmurt, Nenets, Mari and other recipes were prepared by participants from the Perm Territory, Mari El, Komi and Yamal.
