"Life is ideal in the puppet theatre where Nail Baiburin works. Various unpleasant things may happen in the city where he lives. But he is not aware of all this: he has learned to see what gives joy. He says he does not feel the tragic of life because he does not want to be life’s surgeon.
Just like Marc Chagall created his Vitebsk, Nail adores the space of his own world. He created a coordinate system, Created the Earth, Skies and Water, he invented the Day and coloured the Night. He pulls the strings and is in control of everything. This is not an ivory tower, only certain people are admitted, only those who are loved.
Painting and poetry, public journalism and poetry, writing plays and producing. He is a whale in the ocean of art. Art for him is not a profession, not even a vocation, but a construction material in his universe.
The Sun rises in the East. That’s great! To the West with its humanism, eccentrism and other –isms, he opposes his egoism – clear and light, joyful. An utter egoist, Nail is in love with himself, with his work and us, characters in his gargantuan theatre. Long live Love!
Every morning, Nail Baiburin faces his easel or sits down to his table. He writes with his pen, mixes paints: cyan, cadmium, cobalt … love, sadness and joy.
He says he does not feel the quick pace of time, but that does not grieve him much. He just adores single-act plays."
